It seems in the last few years the first term of the school year has been riddled with first ever challenges.
When in the history of teaching have:
Whole classes of students and teachers been absent from school?
Administration staff regularly returning to the classroom for the day?
Decisions been changed on a daily basis?
Never.
This term has been unprecedented.
Every day was like pioneering new territory without a map or a compass.
Uncertainty was the norm.
But what was certain was the devotion, dedication and deliberate actions of educators to ensure, against the odds, that teaching and learning remained a focus.
There is no doubt that the intentions of educators never wavered.
It is nearly time to stop. Stop and rest. Stop and reconnect. Stop and recharge.
But before you do – REFLECT.
Find a quiet space. Comfortable chair and take 5 to 10 minutes to breathe and REFLECT.
Reflect on the challenges you overcame without a play book.
Reflect on what was accomplished.
Reflect on who progressed towards their potential.
Reflect on the joy you gave to others.
You have permission to smile and give yourself a pat on the back.
These are the small wins cumulating towards the greater prize.
And if that doesn’t deliver a smile on your dial, then perhaps this will.
Someone else who continues to follow passion and profession for the joy of others is Stan Urban. Stan is an accomplished piano player and has accompanied The Rolling Stones and Chuck Berry on stage in his youth. When he spotted an upright piano at the Dundee Train Station in 2019, he could not resist the urge to tickle the ivories.
It is an inspiration that passion is no barrier to fulfillment.
It put a smile on my dial.
A gift to you from me to you for all the tremendous work you do.
Enjoy the 3 minutes.
